Especially with such a gigantic $60 book. ![]() As noted, I should be able to give them a background, a sheet, and they should be able to "Run". Now they're expanding into their first "official" run and either keeping one of the Basic Box characters, snagging a PreGen from the core book, or in one case, creating his own character (woah!).Ĭome on guys. "I don't have Negotiation" "It's part of the Influence Skill Group" Then I have to look up the associated skill because that's not on the sheet (Charisma). But I have to constantly look things up like 'Influence Skill Group' when I ask the Face to roll 'Negotiation'. It's worked pretty well for getting everyone familiar with the rules. Everyone runs the Rigger one week, everyone runs the Street Sam the next week, and so on. With this group, I'm having everyone run the same character from the Basic Box to get a feel for the rules. At least with an active group, the others would prop the new guy up while he got his head around the rules. In this case, I have an entire group of folks who haven't played Shadowrun before so they all have PreGens. I'm almost done fixing them for my group but it's taken weeks to slog through the rules to make things correct. Piss and moan, piss and moan, rabble rabble rabble. Heck, the Face has some bracketed skills, 4 which aren't explained anywhere. Listing the weapon without listing that by default it has a Smartgun system again doesn't help new users. Listing "Influence Skill Group" is not helpful at all for new players. It's like using acronyms around folks who don't know what they mean. Twice! And the silly things are not expanded. If you have 'this', you can't have 'that'. And the Basic Box characters are better but certainly there are problems including at least one where the PreGen has two pieces of gear that conflict. Why in the heck are these things so horrible? Every PreGen has at least a few things that are incorrect. I've recently kicked off a SR5 game for my team and in checking out the SR5 PreGens, they're terrible. ![]() Here's the background, here's a PreGen, Go! And that's how I treated them. To me the PreGens should be the front facing part of the game. I did this for 6 years and it generally worked out fine for the short term. Might be the same, might be something different. If the guy sticks around for a bit, they'll create a new character that fits into what they want to run. Download & View Shadowrun 3rd Edition - Character Sheet as PDF for free. I keep copies of all the SR4a PreGens handy and when someone pops in, hand them whatever's lacking for the team this time or a Street Sam (straight up fighter) so we can get going. I'm on Meetup and generally have an open Shadowrun slot or two for drop in players.
